Regional Cancer Care Kicks Cancer in PINK Football Game

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Regional Cancer Care joined South Granville High School on October 22, 2010 in the Vikings Kick Cancer fooball game. Only one other high school in the nation reportedly has honored Breast Cancer Awareness Month in this fashion.

With donations from Goddard & Peterson Law Firm, Sheriff Brindell B. Wilkens, Jr. and RCC, the Vikings played in pink jerseys. Selling pink tshirts, encouraging fans to wear pink, releasing pink balloons at kick-off, a vendor fair and silent auction were some of the events that led up to the game. The NC State cheerleaders and mascots as well as the Durham Bull's Wool E. Bull and Tony Collins signed autographs. The Viking's opponent, Northwood High School, even joined the effort to raise money for the cause.

Ms. Cynthia Twisdale, a beloved teacher at South Granville lost her battle to breast cancer two years ago. The game was dedicated to her and all those in the South Granville community who have been touched by cancer. Proceeds were donated to Play for PINK/Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and totalled over $8,000. The 2nd Annual Vikings Kick Cancer game is already scheduled for October 7, 2011.
